Why I Left Network Marketing After 18 Years to Build an AI Agency

And How This New Season Is Teaching Me That AI-Based Business Is the Most Aligned Path for Moms Who Want More

In partnership with

If you’ve ever outgrown a season you once prayed for… this is for you.

Just a few months ago, I was deep in the grind of network marketing. Eighteen years deep. I’d built teams, hit ranks, flown across the country for events, coached women on mindset, consistency, belief. I was all in. And for many years, it served me.

Until it didn’t.

What once felt like purpose started to feel like pressure.

What used to excite me—daily DMs, live calls, posting nonstop, hustling for the next promo—started to feel like a full-body “no.”

But I didn’t walk away overnight. I wrestled with it.

Because how do you walk away from something that helped you become who you are?

You listen to the whispers.

And mine were telling me it was time to build something of my own.

The Burnout That Led to Breakthrough

The last year in network marketing felt different. I was still doing things the digital marketing way, but geesh…

It seemed like I was working harder, but the returns weren’t matching the energy. I was still trading time for dollars. I felt like I was constantly showing up online just to stay visible. Every promotion cycle reset the scoreboard—and every time I helped someone rise, it still came down to my effort to keep the momentum going.

It wasn’t passive.

It wasn’t scalable.

And it definitely wasn’t sustainable.

As a baseball-mom and a woman who values time freedom, I had to ask myself a hard question:

"Is this what I want five years from now?"

And the answer was clear.

NO!

I wanted:
- Systems.
- Automation.
- High-level impact.

I wanted to build something where my clients won even when I wasn’t “on.” Something that allowed me to bring in consistent income and tuck my son in without checking my phone.

So, I gave myself permission to pivot.

Even while pushing through going broke.

The pain of staying stuck in something I was beginning to hate was far greater than any losses I would have to endure.

(More on that later…in another story.)

Planting the First Seeds of My AI Agency

What started as a whisper turned into a roadmap.

I didn’t know the full picture, but I knew I wanted to build something that used my marketing experience, my eye for systems, and my love for helping small businesses grow—without the burnout.

That’s when I landed on AI.

Not in a “techy, overwhelming, robot takes over” kind of way…

So I got to work.

Month One: Foundation Mode

Here’s what I focused on during the first month of building my AI agency:

1. Clarifying My “Why” (And Letting Go of the Guilt)

I sat with the guilt of leaving something I was known for. I journaled about the fear of starting over. And then I gave myself grace.

Because here’s the truth: it’s okay to outgrow a model that no longer aligns.

This agency wasn’t just a business idea. It was a fresh start. A realignment. A call to create something that worked for me—not just because of me.

2. Getting Clear on Who I Want to Help

I started doing what I call "clarity interviews." I hopped on short calls with small business owners, digital creators, and even service providers who were curious about AI but overwhelmed.

These weren’t sales calls.

They were learning labs.

I asked:

  • What’s the hardest part of your marketing right now?

  • Where do you feel like you’re wasting time?

  • Have you used any AI tools yet? If not, why not?

I listened. Took notes. Spotted patterns.

And what I found was simple:

Most people don’t want to learn how AI works. They want to know how it can save them time and make them more money.

Bingo.

That’s where I started crafting my offers.

3. Testing Lead Generation Strategies

This part was a game-changer. I didn’t want to rely on just social media posts to build interest. I needed something more intentional, more repeatable.

So here’s what I actually did:

  • Plugged into LinkedIn and optimized my profile to attract my ideal clients

  • Learned how to use Sales Navigator to find and connect with the right businesses

  • Set up a simple outreach system that felt human—not spammy

  • Created a value-packed lead magnet

It wasn’t perfect. But it worked.

Mamas, don’t wait to be polished. Launch, then learn.

4. Structuring the Offer and Pricing It Confidently

Here’s where I got stuck (briefly): how do you price something that feels so new?

I reminded myself: I’m not selling the tech. I’m selling the result.

So I created two clear offers:

  1. AI Efficiency Audits – A Free 30-minute session where I walk through a client’s biz and show them where AI could save them hours or make them more money.

  2. Done-for-You AI Assistant Automation Buildouts – My paid service where I (or my team) actually set up the AI Assistant and automations using tools like ChatGPT, email flows, and client onboarding systems.

Once I had that in place, it felt real.

My First Win (and What It Taught Me)

I booked my first AI Assistant client in Week 2.

A $4,094 up-front payment, with $297/mo recurring

A busy mom running her coaching business was overwhelmed by nonstop DMs on Facebook and Instagram, answering the same questions over and over, and trying to sift through a sea of potential clients—with no time to screen who was truly the right fit.

By the end of our 30-minute session, within 24-hours, I sent her a gameplan/proposal where I mapped out an AI assistant for prequalifying buyers, FAQs, an integrated calendar, and a sequence to automate her email/text follow-ups.

She messaged me 3 days later:

“I’ve already saved 6 hours and actually had dinner on time twice this week.”

That was it. That was the moment I knew I was in the right space.

Why Moms Need to See This Shift

This journey isn’t just about me.

It’s about showing what’s possible when you stop waiting for someone else’s business model to make sense and start building your own.

It’s about recognizing that digital business gives us leverage.

It allows us to:

  • Be present without being broke

  • Scale without sacrificing our sanity

  • Use systems, not sweat, to make income

This agency is still in its early stages. I’m testing, refining, learning every week. But I’ve never felt more in flow.

So to the mom reading this who’s feeling the same nudge I felt a few months ago…

Maybe it’s not burnout.
Maybe it’s misalignment.

And maybe this next season is calling you to create something that’s fully yours.

What’s Next

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be diving deeper into:

  • Running more audit calls

  • What I’m learning from business owners about what they want

  • Possibly creating a mini AI course specifically for mompreneurs (not in stone yet)

  • Hiring support, like 1 other person (yes, already—because freedom is the goal)

And I’ll be documenting it all—openly, honestly, and with the intention to empower other women to stop playing small.

If you’ve been thinking about building your own AI/digital brand, agency, or offer…

This is your sign to start.

Even messy. Even scared. Even unsure.
